Robert Stein, Senior Managing Director
Rob Stein began his career in 1983 as a project analyst for the Federal Reserve, under the chairmanship of Paul Volcker. From there, he went on to hold senior trading or portfolio management positions with Bank of America New York, Harris Bank Chicago and Bank of America Chicago. Beginning in 1991, Mr. Stein also served as the Managing Director of Proprietary Trading for Barclay's Bank PLC New York. Returning to Chicago in 1994, he formed Astor Financial, Inc., an investment and brokerage firm. Mr. Stein later formed Astor Asset Management, L.L.C, formerly a division of Astor Financial, which became a registered investment advisory firm with the SEC in 2001. Mr. Stein is the author of three books, including The Bull Inside the Bear: Finding New Investment Opportunities in Today's Fast-Changing Financial Markets (John Wiley & Sons, 2009). He is regularly featured in print and broadcast media such as the Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Investor's Business Daily, ABC, FOX News, Bloomberg and CNBC. Mr. Stein graduated from the University of Michigan.
Bryan Novak, Director
Bryan Novak joined Astor in 2002 and currently serves as Director of Trading. He is responsible for assisting in all money management decisions made by Astor and oversees the firm's trading operations. Mr. Novak has been involved in the research and development of the trading and investment strategies at the firm. He was instrumental in the launch of the firm's mutual fund in 2009 and has served as part of the portfolio management team since 2004. Prior to Astor, Mr. Novak was a trader for Second City Trading, LLC, an equity option market-making firm, at the Chicago Board Options Exchange. He was involved in the firm's implementation of their screen-based trading platform and was a market maker on the floor of the CBOE. Mr. Novak has experience trading in securities markets from equities, equity derivatives, futures and commodity markets as well as pre-public equity investment structures. Mr. Novak earned his Bachelor of Science in Financial Management from the Ohio State University and is a Level I CAIA candidate.
John Eckstein, Director
John Eckstein joined Astor as Director of Research in 2011. He serves on the firm's investment committee and is responsible for international global macro strategies, investment strategies based on a systematic analysis of the worldwide macroeconomic environment. In 1995, Mr. Eckstein founded Cornerstone Quantitative Investment Group, a global macro hedge fund with peak assets of $600 million. At Cornerstone, Mr. Eckstein was responsible for all aspects of the firm's operations including fixed income, currency, commodity and equity portfolios. Prior to Cornerstone, Mr. Eckstein was a researcher for Luck Trading Company, a commodity trading adviser. Mr. Eckstein is a co-author of Commodity Investing: Maximizing Returns through Fundamental Analysis (John Wiley & Sons, 2008) and is a frequent speaker at industry events. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Brown University and is a candidate for a Master in Public Administration in International Economic Policy at Columbia University.
Althea Trevor, Vice President
Althea Trevor joined Astor Asset Management in 2008 to assist the portfolio management team at Astor. Ms. Trevor collaborates on the firm's research efforts and assists with the development and maintenance of Astor's economic models. Ms. Trevor graduated from the University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. She currently serves on the board of the Hoja Project, an international charity that seeks to promote secondary education and HIV/AIDS awareness in rural Tanzania. Ms. Trevor is a Level III CFA candidate.
 
     SALES & MARKETING
 
Jeff Feldman, Director
Jeff Feldman is responsible for the business development and marketing initiatives at Astor. In addition to supporting the growth of the retail advisory business, he is responsible for developing new business within the institutional channel. Mr. Feldman started with Astor in 2000 and was a key part of the team that launched and developed the firm's actively managed strategies. Mr. Feldman rejoined Astor in 2009, after running a financial services consulting firm focused on working with advisors and the growth of their practices. Prior to working in the financial services, Mr. Feldman worked in the film and television industry producing television commercials and independent feature films. He earned his B.A. from the University of Michigan.
Terry Geary, Director
Terry Geary oversees the firm's sales and distribution efforts nationally and serves as relationship manager for major wirehouses, independent broker-dealers and RIA clientele across the East Coast. Mr. Geary is a graduate from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in Finance and was a financial advisor at A.G. Edwards and then UBS. Prior to that, he was a Vice President for Churchill Management and then First Trust Portfolios.
Kent Tkach, Vice President
Kent Tkach serves as relationship manager for major wirehouses, independent broker-dealers and RIA clientele across the Midwest. Mr. Tkach has over twelve years of financial services experience with a focus on wholesale distribution. Prior to joining Astor, Mr. Tkach served as Regional Director for Calamos Investments and Bradford & Marzec, LLC. Mr. Tkach earned his B.S. from St. Ambrose University.
 
Dennis Engel, Vice President
Dennis Engel serves as relationship manager for major wirehouses, independent broker-dealers and RIA clientele for the Western United States. Mr. Engel has over twenty years of experience in the financial service industry including fourteen years as the COO and Partner of ICON Advisers, Inc. and the ICON mutual fund family. Most recently Mr. Engel was the COO and National Sales Manager for Wakefield Asset Management. Mr. Engel earned his B.A. from Stanford University.
 
     OPERATIONS & COMPLIANCE
 
Scott Thomas, Vice President
Scott Thomas oversees the firm's operations team, responsible for managing the model implementation and supervision of Astor's asset management programs. Mr. Thomas also manages the back office support of financial advisory relationships within Astor's client network. Mr. Thomas began his career in the financial industry with Equity Consultants, LLC in 2005. Prior to joining Astor, he held managerial positions for Bank of America's retail lending division. He is a graduate of Purdue University.
 
Matthew Mohlman, Vice President
Matthew Mohlman oversees the compliance operations for Astor Asset Management. Mr. Mohlman earned a Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law with a concentration in financial regulation. During this time, he interned at both the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodities Futures Trading Commission. Prior to Astor, Mr. Mohlman served as a compliance officer for Interactive Brokers Group and AFA Financial Group. He is admitted to the bar in both New York and Illinois. Mr. Mohlman also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Xavier University and a Master of Arts from Texas A&M University. Additionally, he serves on the Executive Committee of Catholic Charities Junior Board and runs marathons to support Salute Inc., a military family charity.
